This is normal for male ferrets. I've seen several of mine do this behavior, all of them were neutered.

I've even seen females go over something and look like they 'mark' it, too.

Ferrets are territorial by nature.

[If you do not clean with ammonia, and if the ferret is not marking
an entryway which makes it feel insecure, and if the ferret is not
marking where another ferret left scent then this is not normal
behavior and can indicate prostate enlargement, especially in
neutered ferrets. Prostate enlargement is from adrenal disease
in ferrets and it can become fatal if the ferret blocks. There is
