Subject: [ferrethealth] metoclopromide for heliobacter---30mg/kg? seriously?!

That's a HUGE dose of reglan compounded at 5mg/ml, but that's what I read on Miamiferret. Is it a misprint? My vet has to order biaxin, so we're starting with the old protocol, but this is over 10 mg of meds. That's an awful lot to force into a sick ferret and I certainly don't want to overdose her. Feedback, please!
Moderator's note: You have misread the medication, the dose is right, the medication is wrong. It is not reglan ( metoclopromide) which is used in vomiting, but Metronidazole ( flagyl) which is an antibiotic used to treat helicobacter along with amoxicillin. It is poorly tolerated due to taste so biaxin was used as a more palatable alternative. But more expensive.
Always check with your vet of course, who has access to books and pharmacists,etc to get the dosage recommendations.
