Subject: [ferrethealth] Corneal Scratch
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Greetings fellow ferret-health friends!
Yesterday evening, my xsmall 4 1/2 year-old black-eyed white girl(One of the two ferrets that I own), Ophelia, awoke with what appeared to be a ferret "black-eye". She tended to close it when focusing in, and her eyelid was slightly inflamed. I worried it was a scratch, as her bill of health is otherwise very positive. It was definitely irritating her a little, although she was still very energetic, curious, and interested in food. No eye discharge, say for very little water once or twice.
I brought her to the vet a couple of hours ago (less than 24hrs later). After a corneal stain, her left eye is indeed scratched. I was sent home with "Ofloxacin ophth Solution 0.3%", to apply 3x times daily for 7 days. If her eye starts to look worse, I am to call the vet to schedule a procedure go in and sew it up (Ouch!! In more than one way).
I did search the archives, and was trying to find anyone whos been through something similar. Any feedback or comments on your experience? Advice? I am hoping the chances of her corneal scratch healing are good?
Thank-you to everybody who helps make this forum possible!
