Subject: [ferrethealth] 7 yr Old Ferret with Insulinoma - Not eating
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
My Ferret was diagnosed with Insulinoma last April, well actually he had a seizure and almost died. Prior to that I didn't have a clue. He's been on Prednisone 2x a day since. Starting at 0.3 mg and then 0.4 since November (after another set of seizures).
He seems to be doing ok- he nolonger eats his regular food though, only seeming to want the vet purchased recovery food (Hill's a/d) which causes very soft stool. Overall this seems to have resulted in about a .5 -.75 pound weight loss.
I'm wondering about perhaps the benefits of carafate or maybe switching to prednisolone although I'm not sure of the benefits.
One off question - I was under the impression that pred was very inexpensive. I pay about $27 for a bottle that lasts only 10 days with 2 0.4mg dose. So I'm looking at about $81 a month- that seems expensive. Is this too much?
