Subject: [ferrethealth] Red paw pads and occasional heavy breathing Bad breath too
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a friend that lives over 100 miles away with a foster ferret that is insulinomic, had adrenal surgery 10 months ago and a deslorelin implant (4.2) in October (4 months ago) as a preventative for future adrenal. His age is unknown but guestimatied at 6. He was found 14 months ago, (her first encounter with a ferret) naked wandering the streets. We live in a FFZ.
Now he keeps getting bright red paws on occasions. I was visiting last week and noticed he has horrible breath as well. When I mentioned this to her she said he gets labored breathing, kind of moans (I am thinking possibly pain?) when his paws get bright red. She says his nose gets a bit swollen as well. I suggested childrens benydrel as perhaps it is an allergic reaction to something. Do you guys have any other suggestions. He is on Prednisolone for the insilinoma also. When his pads got bright red I didn't think his gums got bright though when I saw him.

He had lost weight, down to 915 grams before so I kept him for 3 weeks, put him on Carnivore Care until he reached 1100 grams. Could the weight gain trigger this? Also, she has ran out of CC and is now just using Gerber Chicken Baby food and wetting Evo/natural gold Kibble for his supplemental feedings.

[How long has it been since his blood glucose levels
were run to see how well his insulinoma is controlled?
The symptoms you give are among the types that can
happen when there is no longer sufficient control so
his vet might want to check that and adjust the dosing
and timing, even possibly add a med if that is the problem.
