Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Abscess near anus on 1 yr old male ferret (Update)
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Just an update on Cleetee :)

We saw his vet today, and she said I was definitely doing everything right (cleaning the abscess with Chlorhexidine, and keeping it draining, warm compresses, and applying a triple antibiotic ointment), but sometimes once they appear it's hard to clear them up without an oral antibiotic. She put him on Clavulin (Amoxicillin and Clavulinic Acid) for a week.

I have to take him back in a week for a follow-up. If it keeps getting infected, he may have to have surgery. She said she hasn't had too many problems with remaining glandular tissue in Marshall ferrets, but it does happen on occasion. I really want to avoid surgery unless it's a last resort, so here's hoping that this is a one-time thing and the antibiotics take care of it.

Thanks for everyone's help :)
