I have spoken with two ferret expert and ECE expert pathologists about this.

Dr. Matti Kiupel who has done sequencing on ECE and also could identify tumor type excellently sent along information on how the vet in the UK could send specimens to the Ferret Health Group at Michigan State which studies ferret illnesses including emerging ones. BTW, he will be a speaker at the IFC symposium in the southwest in the summer. The cost to get an answer will be small if that is done.

Dr Bruce Williams who first found that ECE is caused by a coronavirus also replied. I am not on mymqin computer, only my iPad today because my usual computer is not acting right. Since I forgot to unplug it and turn it off before the storm last night I hope that lightning or a power surge did not fry it. So, I transcribed the critical info from him by hand and am typing it in.

About ECE
"cause severe inflammation which might induce lymphoma in a small percentage of cases over time but four out of twenty is just to high a number...
If we have no histology to identify either ECE or the identity of the tumor, we are all in the field of pretty wild speculation here, at best."

So the first step is for the person to get the information on submitting those specimens to the experts at MIchigan State and the vet in the UK corresponding with them, and the second is to try to see if the specimens can tell if this was even ECE and what the tumors are.
