Help i have tried everything I have a 5 month old nuetered male ferret. He started out mouthing us now hes full out biting. I can't get him to stop. I tried sour apple the dominence trick everything. I am worried he'll hurt my children.
[If this is a training issue then it is not
a health topic, and replies that are not
health replies will have to be sent to
you directly.
There ARE health issues which can relate
to biting, though. A ferret who is in pain
from a medical or a dental issue will bite.
Has the ferret had a dental examination
and a medical examination by a ferret
veterinarian recently?
Young children are simply so active
and enthusiastic that they wind up a
ferret emotionally with all of their own
activity and yelling, and that may be
involved.
Usually problems like you describe are
behavioral, though, and typically involve
the people in the family needing to
learn better what to do and not do with
ferrets, for example, times out make
sense but physical punishment backfires.
If there is a ferret shelter in your area
or a ferret club there then someone in
one of those organizations may be able
to help with a training problem. See:

and open the second life preserver

which should all help you find someone
local to you.
For veterinarians:

Remember to have the vet also check the teeth.
sometimes a baby tooth gets caught and
an abscess develops and sometimes
other dental problems happen in kits.
Reminder to those sending NON-health
replies to this poster: check your "to" line
and do not send them to the FHL accidentally
because they will be rejected for you to send
directly to this poster.
