Subject: [ferrethealth] Lymphoblastic Lymphoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Dear Moderator,
Thank you so much for your comments.=A0 LBL is my short-hand as I've typed=
Lymphoblastic Lymphoma so often now, but yes it is juvenile lymphoma, I was=
n't
thinking clearly when I put that, sorry for the confusion.=A0 I've read so =
much
around this subject that I'm getting quite confused.
The diagnosis was by=A0x-rays - I had thought he must have a blockage as he=
loves
to chew foam but the x-ray showed a uniform mass which it wouldn't if an ob=
ject
was there I was told (although I was under the impression that many things =
don't
show up=A0on an x-ray).=A0 =A0Given Dr Williams' comments on bloods showing=
raised
lymphocyte levels not being indicative,=A0as there may not be leukaemia,=A0=
we didn't
do=A0a blood test.
We have a very difficult constraint here in that we get free veterinary
treatment (as our family financial situation is rather dire, having gone fr=
om a
family who could afford to=A0have vet care for=A020 ferrets to one who stru=
ggles
with=A0vets bills for 4)=A0but against that is the problem that we can't ge=
t
the=A0full gamut of tests that would be available to a fee-paying patient.
I would really like to get a needle biopsy as a minimum to persuade me that=
we're doing the right thing, treating it as lymphoma and not a gastric trac=
t
problem which could be treated palliatively, such as Eosinophilic
gastroenteritis.=A0 Although of course it could be intestinal cancer.
Today I've reverted to Immodium for his diarrhoea as he's losing such a lot=
of
fluid and although he isn't dehydrated yet (by skin pinch anyway) he will b=
e.=A0 I
tried to get some kaolin as it's inert and is a well-known anti-diarrhoeal =
med,
but here it seems to come with Morphine and I didn't want him
=A0Right now he's running around the house, eating happily & drinking, just=
had a
wee with no poo, and is very playful.
Best wishes
Sarah Benson
