I too have flea combs that work and those that do not.
If I compare the combs tooth to tooth it is clear that my working comb has more teeth per inch than one none working comb and wider teeth/smaller gap than the other.
I finally went from store to store comparing my non working to those on sale until I found the good one (not recommended for those with poor eyesight.
