Subject: [ferrethealth] Deslorlin implant...when do they start taking effect?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
My almost 6 year old late alter male had the implant done on Feb 24th. No change at all yet...still trying to breed with certain girls and boys (likes to start this at 5-6 am much to my dismay), marking, constatly dooking. These are really his only 'adrenal' symptoms. Possibly still maybe just 'seasonal' symptoms. The T-Panel was not done.
[Figure this means Tennessee Panel, also called TN Panel for those wondering or who want to look it up in the separate archives and learn more-- Moderator]
Still full coated, eats like a pig, great weight, no pear shape, etc. Last year he had two lupron shots, which took efect within 3 weeks. First didn't last long...maybe 2 months? The other lasted 7 months, he was back to his normal self.
So at what point do I start to think about different treatment? Another Lupron? Or surgery...which I really don't want to do. A friend said it took her one ferret 2 months before any changes. So...should I just wait it out?
Thanks! Joan and the 7 fuzzies
owned bty ferrets since 1977!
[Remember that you CAN use a Ferretonin Implant along
with the Suprelorin implant just as you can with the related
Lupron. Surgery is always an option and then the Suprelorin
in place will protect the remaining adrenal if there is one.
If both adrenals have to fully come out then either
Fludrocort/Florinef and Prednisolone daily, OR Percorten
injection about every 3 weeks and daily Prednisolone
will be needed to avoid fatal Addisons. More on those, too,
in the easily used separate archives:
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
which can always be linked to from the homepage of the FHL.
Ferrets seem to differ pretty widely on when and how much they
respond to Suprelorin except for the invigorating and
anti-depressant effect that many have noticed happening early on.
