Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Mycoplasmosis confirmed in a Marshall's Ferret
I contacted the owner to get more more information. The ferret is currently 16 months old and was bought directly from the pet store when she was about 3 months old. She was housed with 4 or 5 other ferrets at the pet store. However, it is not known whether they were Real Canadian Ferrets or Marshall's.
She had been to the vet a number of times, but because she was a Marshall's ferret, mycoplasmosis was not suspected. As her symptoms got worse, the vet finally did the diagnostics and mycoplasma was found about a month ago. She was put on low dose prednisolone for 2 weeks and her symptoms improved. The second sample was sent to MSU and she was started on doxycyline.
The owner also contacted Marshall's when the mycoplasmosis was confirmed.
