Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: noroviruses and ferrets?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have heard back from Dr. Matti Kiupel of the Ferret Health Group
at Michigan State and noroviruses tend to be very species specific.
He has never heard of a ferret getting it, so that is one fewer thing
to worry about during my family member's recovery period and
shedding period (which we know will go on for 2 or 3 weeks after
he looks fine). We have been informed about safety measures.
That has to have been the worst sandwich shop sandwich either
of us has gotten in our own lifetimes!

We have learned that we have to take precautions about one of a
different family member's health problems, though. She has focal
bacterial pneumonia and then got MRSA during treatment. Our vet
has informed us that he has encountered MRSA is pets so when we
visit not only will we be using the special washes the hospital had
us use but we will change clothes and do wash on arriving home
the next time there is any possible exposure to that.
