Subject: [ferrethealth] Osteosarchoma on jaw or sialolith?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I'm=A0a veterinary medicine student from=A0Argentina, and work in a clinic =
that
treat ferrets.=A0

I would like to have the opinion of the FHL in general, and specially Dr. B=
ruce
H. Williams about a case we've never seen before in our clinic's practice.

The patient is a 3 year old male ferret from Marshall Farms (so neutered an=
d
descented).

The client brought it because saw his jaw wet from saliva.=A0But the Dr. fo=
und a
mass anatomically located on the right=A0mandibular gland.=A0 First thought=
of a
cyst or an abscess, she tried to punctured but it was hard and not movable.=
=A0 We
can only get a few drops of blood from it, and cithology was impossible.
The X-ray showed a=A0roundish=A0mass simillar to bone or a calcificated str=
ucture of
aprox 2,5 - 3 cm of diameter, aparently not associated to the jaw but
without=A0certainty of it.=A0 The x-ray=A0Dr.=A0diagnosis was inclined to s=
ay it was a
sialolith, but I repeat, is absolutely impossible to move it.

The size of it is starting to difficult deglution of the ferret, and seems =
to be
growing rapidly. The blood work is fine overall.
=A0
Please, I would very much aprecciate any information on how to make a good=

diagnosis and proper treatment for each possibility, and prognosis of them.=
I
here attach the two x-ray we received.
=A0
With kind regards, from Argentina...
