Subject: [ferrethealth] Tufts protocol, second time
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Has anyone here had experience with using the protocol 2 times with the same ferret? A little background, Hershey was a 4 yr old female in Jan 2009 when she was diagnosed via biopsy with lymphoma. She had swollen glands in her neck, arm pits and back of her hind legs. On xray she had a mediastinal mass about the same size as her heart. We started the Tufts protocol in Jan. About 6 weeks into the protocol we rexrayed her and the mass in her chest was gone!!! She underwent the entire protocol and she remained in remission until a few weeks ago when I noticed that something wasn't quite right with her. BTW, she was xrayed in December 2010 and there was no indication of return of the cancer. I took her to the vet 2 wks ago and palpation of her abdomen revealed something. Xray was inconclusive. Ultrasound done showed a large mass that appeared to be attached to the liver but there was a possibility it was attached to the right adrenal. Needle biopsy came back lymphoma. My vet has consulted with Dr Antinoff and we are starting a protocol this week that I believe is the Tufts or some variation of it. I have not talked with my vet at length yet but will when we go in for her first treatment after the meds are received. So my question is has anyone out there any experience with lymphoma twice and chemo twice? I am hopeful that she will respond just as well to this chemo as she did 2yrs ago. Thanks in advance!
