What would be signs or symptoms of vitamin A toxicity? My ferrets have gotten a good squirt of ferretone as part of their soup 3 times daily for years and also have some salmon oil mixed in (a much lesser amount). To my knowledge, I’ve never seen any adverse reactions or effects of any sort.

[See Tressie's post for info to help and
to know what does not happen, and my
reply to her latest post might help, too.
Vitamin A toxicity tends to show up in
places like the liver. Those got approved
after you sent this post, Jeff.

Seriously, the worries about A for ferrets
are largely overblown ones by people who
tried to generalize to ferrets from humans.
That is not to say that problems can't happen,
especially from sources which do not give
A precursors but instead give manufactured
retinol.

For both A and for D trying to apply what is
right for humans to ferrets can not be accurately
done.
