Hi Virginia,
There is currently only one USDA-approved canine distemper vaccine for ferrets - Purevax-D, manufactured by Merial.  If your vet can't get that one in, then best not to have them vaccinated at all.  
Here is a link with further information about vaccinations for ferrets and possible side-effects, which can be fatal.  Your vet should pre-treat with Benadryl.  Anyway all the info is there:

I would highly recommend getting Ferrets for Dummies by Kim Schilling for yourself.  Its a wonderful resource for experienced and inexperienced ferret owners.
