Then you need to go to another town and find another vet who knows
something about ferrets. Distemper in ferrets is nearly 100% fatal
and it is a truly horrible death. Do you want to chance that with
your beloved pet? I travel three hours to get to a vet I truly trust.
Hopefully you can find one closer to home than that.

The moderator comment about ferrets needing specialized care was right
on the mark. You need a good ferret vet, just not whomever is local,
when Willa or your newcomer has a serious issue. While some ferrets
will be healthy all their lives the average ferret will have one major
health crisis requiring surgery at some point.

First you probably want to quarantine the newcomer for 10 days to be
sure there are no health issues that could be passed on to Willa.
Doing two play times and giving enough attention to both separately is
a pain but it's worth it just to be safe.

Second, go slow. My little Chin Soon came to me as a rescue at 11
months old and she had never been with another ferret. She was
terrified. She needed comforting and lots of supervision but it
worked out well in the end. Other introductions were easier. It all
depends on the personality of the ferrets involved.

Good luck to you and to Willa.

All the best,
Caity and the dynamic duo (Zephyr and Chin Soon)
