Subject: [ferrethealth] cytokine storms
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
Back when DIM which caused severe cytokine storms (and more) was being seen we lost our Chiclet to it as one of the earliest victims.
New information on cytokine storms has been discovered (not ferret work but may be useful):

Notice that some of the causes can include a genetic variation playing a part. Some vets at the time when DIM was being seen suggested that some individuals might have been more genetically vulnerable and then the trigger (thought to possibly be the very problematic United Fervac vaccine -- perhaps corrupted -- which no longer exists) set the stage.
Also see:
> "We identified two important molecules in the immune system that control the severity of MAS," said Behrens. One molecule is interferon-gamma, which makes MAS more severe. The other molecule is interleukin-10 (IL-10), which has a protective effect. "This research strongly suggests that the relative contribution of these molecules can dial up or dial down the severity of a cytokine storm in MAS," said Behrens.
Hopefully, nothing like that with cytokine storms will ever happen again, but more information which might lead to better treatment and better understandings of possible causes of cytokine storms. This has the potential to be a real improvement in information.
