Subject: [ferrethealth] Roo - My sickly Ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Good afternoon All
My name is Kathryn & I have a ferret that I have had for about five
years...I do not know exactly how old she is - as my son "found" her and
brought her home (spring 2006), knowing that I have an affinity for
ferrets, and anything "furry"...My ferret fur-kid's name is Roo
(Rooty-roo - since she used to root around - [:)] )...there are also
two dogs (GSD's), and two cats in the house - Roo has her own house
(cage/kennel type - one level-probably 4-5ft long 2ft wide???) in her
own room...which sits on top of a very large cabinet so no other animals
can get to her - the door to her house is clipped shut...since she is a
little older, she doesnt seem to try her luck at getting out...since she
knows(?) that i will take her out after she eats and in the evening for
"play" time...when she's not feeling bad...
...My poor baby has been looking & feeling "rough" for a while now...she
has been seen by a vet...who has put her on amoxicillan a couple of
times, with no real major changes in her health after finishing the
meds...
She went back to the vet today, and we were given some info on
Insulinoma(sp?), as well as given some steroids to be given to her...do
not know the dose yet, as bf took her to vet for me, as i had to come to
work...
anywho...i have been doing some reading and would like to know what is
the difference in Insulinoma and ECE? they seem to have the same
symptoms...Roo eats wet ferret meat 2x a day(which i add a little water
to, to make it kinda soupy), and has kibble in a bowl to nibble/graze
(the kind that Marshall's makes for senior ferrets) and a bowl of fresh
water daily...BESIDES surgery, what can i or should i ask the vet to do
to get a DEFINITIVE diagnosis, that wont break the bank???
thank you all in advance for any and all suggestions, comments, etc...
kathryn
