I would agree with the dosages that Tressie has suggested. My vets (two different practices) both usually start at 200 mcg (micrograms) for 4-month Lupron depot shots, which I feel is way too little. I have convinced my main vet to start at 500 mcg for a 4-month Lupron Depot shot, and Iâve used as much as 1.0 mg (1,000 mcg), with no adverse side effects whatsoever. I have also spoken with other ferret owners who have used as much as 2.0 mg for advanced adrenal disease cases. Again, thatâs for a 4-month shot, which really needs to be repeated at about 3 to 3-1/2 months. And, itâs for ferrets that weight approx. 1 kg (2.2 lbs), give or take a few ounces.
With that being said, I MUCH prefer the Deslorelin implants. I have found them to be more effective AND more cost-effective over time. If your current vet does not have them, perhaps you can check other vets in your area. Here are some links to try for locating other ferret vets, if you choose:

My vets use 100 mcg monthly Lupron Depot for small females, males are started at 200 mcg (minimum) monthly Lupron Depot.
