Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Recall of Heinz baby Chicken
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I am trying to find out if the Heinz Baby Food recall posts appearing in several places on line might be false. None that I have found so far have actual working references and none is on a medical site or a news site, the most recent one I can find at the USDA site is from long ago, it is also not in the FDA site (though a cat food has been recently added there, plus, the SAME announcement appears in several places but different locations for where they say it is occurring (That can be due to exportation but alternatively could be from people changing announcements in their posts on some sites.). Those features all too often smack of a false internet rumor. This time it is real but more specific that many posts make it look to be so see below.

Tried these reputable sites and more:
http://www.fsis.usda.gov/News_&_Events/2008_news_releases/index.asp
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/default.htm

Okay, FOUND IT in a news site finally:

http://www.frenchtribune.com/teneur/115606-heinz-issues-recall-selected-baby-food-products

The details are that this is Heinz Canada:
They have issued a recall for 100 ml glass jars of strained beef with broth, strained chicken with broth and strained lamb with broth. Heinz in a report blamed a potential defect in the packaged glass jars.
...
no injuries have been reported as of now
...
The affected jars have a
glass deformity that could be potentially dangerous and can break off

The article does NOT say what the deformity is or where it is on the jar so I can't give details on how to check your own jars. Sorry.

Also, I can not confirm details or distribution range at the Heinz site because it is refusing bring up press releases that are not sales press releases. Should someone else find a working link at Heinz with details on distribution range or the jar problem itself could you share it us all, please?
