Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Possible IBD questions
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

IBD is sort of a mystery ailment. It can be caused by many different things. But it can also be treated without knowing exactly what the cause is. For example, I had a boy, Pop, who had terrible diarrhea of all sorts, and clearly had IBD, but we couldn't figure out why. After trying many things, I finally got it well under control, and it wasn't until a few months later that an ultrasound revealed that he had a very big right adrenal tumor that was pressing on his intestine, causing the problem. The tumor was inoperable at that point, but I still kept his IBD under control until I had to eventually put him to sleep because of the adrenal disease.

I would suggest that you change his diet from kibble to soup twice or three times daily, with kibble available between meals. Ingredients that I would recommend include, in order of amount, are:

* Ground up kibble. Here is a link to an inexpensive and very sturdy coffee grinder that I use to grind up kibble for soup:

* Hills A/D canned food. Use some in each bowl of soup, and store the rest covered in the fridge

* Water (I use bottled)

* Plain canned pumpkin

* A little ferretone

* Slippery Elm Bark Powder - Can work wonders for soothing any and all GI problems

* Probiotics - add 2 or 3 times a week. I have used Forti-Flora for years. It's a powder and easy to dispense a small amount at a time.

I actually mix up a batch of this soup and store it in the fridge in a sealed container, then just scoop out the amount needed for each meal, add some water, and heat in a microwave until warm. I add in probiotics after heating as needed.
