In some hypoallergenic pet foods the protein complexes are largely broken down to the component amino acids. Those are far less likely to trigger an allergic reaction when they are not only available as protein complexes that the immune system recognizes, and is why some foods that have what was originally chicken can be used by some ferrets (but from our experience not by all) with chicken allergy. Just note that I do NOT know if that is done with Carnivore Care.
Another things to know about the foods with the breakdown to amino acids is that the nutrients can be more easily absorbed by some depending on multiple individual factors like degree of intestinal damage and where the intestinal damage is (remembering that the small intestine is critical for absorbing many nutrients) so it is easier for some of the ferrets to have weight gain on those foods, whether desired or not in those individuals.
