I am waiting to hear back from a veterinary vaccine expert for a professional opinion on the canine distemper vaccines available for use in ferrets.

In the interim I refer people to this article by Dr. R. Hines `Distemper In Ferrets Distemper Vaccine Reactions and Anaphylaxis':
http://www.2ndchance.info/distemperferret.htm
Quoting from the article above in reference to Galaxy D: "…it is not approved by the FDA for use in ferrets. I do not suggest it because you never know when the ingredients in it might change. The distemper virus in these vaccines must be weakened more before it is given to ferrets than to dogs or it can cause the disease. So stay with a government -approved product."

Vaccines are stringently regulated and tested for many years involving thousands of subjects in clinical trials before they are approved by the FDA. The process is outlined here: http://www.fda.gov/biologicsbloodvaccines/developmentapprovalprocess/biologicslicenseapplicationsblaprocess/ucm133096.htm

This process is the hallmark of `evidence-based' medicine that determines veterinary and human clinical practice.
Unless new scientific evidence comes to light suggesting an FDA approved vaccine should not be held as the gold standard for use in ferrets, the prudent and safest choice would be Purevax-D by Merial.
