I am in your area. Our vets are ferret experts and they use Purevax and are happy with it as are we. We have never personally encountered a reaction with it, though reactions can happen with any vaccines. On the other hand, we've personally encountered reactions to Galaxy, Fervac, and Fromm which was the vaccine which was modified into Galaxy, and well as to IMRAB 3 in some ferrets (a minority of our ferrets over the space of 30 years have reacted to one or more vaccines, none of whom died or had lasting damage from reactions, though those things do happen rarely). The numbers kept indicate a lower rate of reactions in ferrets with Purevax than with Fervac but the last I heard numbers were not kept for Galaxy since use of that vaccine in ferrets was off-label.

There are ways to reduce the risk of reactions. The one I like best is to have titers run. If the animal has a high titer number then the animal is protected but there are also physiological reasons to suspect that such ferrets will be more prone to having allergic reactions.

Sukie (not a vet)
