To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Before we had Deslorelin implants available here my vet used to make up individual doses from the one-month lupron depot, and then he froze them. If a client wanted the 3-month depot it was ordered from the compounding pharmacy as a 3-month depot. My understanding was that they were formulated differently, which makes sense.
Both of my vets, and our consulting vet preferred the one-month depot over the three-month depot because it is easier to medically manage and monitor the ferret.
I have ferrets with insulinoma who are on pred and have received Deslorelin implants. I had a ferret, who has since passed away who was on diazoxide for insulinoma and received a Deslorelin implant. No adverse effects noted in either case.
