To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

This is in response to Dr. Murray's post, and to an anonymous post going
around which is factually incorrect, and very damaging, both to us and to
the ferret community at large.

You see, I personally vaccinated those ferrets.

I have records proving it. The label from each dose is attached to that
ferret's records, as we always do.

So, we have records not only of when each ferret was vaccinated, but what
specific lot was used.

If you have questions on that, I'm happy to share our records with you.
We've got nothing to hide.

As I've stated, we have been trying to understand why ferrets that were
current on their vaccinations still contracted distemper. We are looking
into all of the correlations we can find, and welcome anyone who wants to
work with us in solving the puzzles.

As I've also posted, our best theory at this point is that many of the
ferrets never completed their kit series. I literally can't count the
number of people who came in and, when questioned about their vaccination
history, said "The breeder vaccinated them, so they're covered."

Why do I say that such posts are damaging?

Because many shelters have contacted me directly saying essentially the same
thing:

"We had distemper go through our shelter too, and you're the first person
we've every told"

because they were afraid of being publicly called out and shamed.

Had we not been public, we wouldn't have learned of the Vitamin-A &
Interferon protocol which saved many ferrets which had gotten sick.

If shelters look at the messages being aimed at us and decides not to
discuss their own experiences publicly, they will miss out on lots of
support, including some that saved lives.
