If memory serves weren't there also multiple past mentions by veterinarians in an assortment of contexts saying that the original kit vaccine series is the essential foundation of a strong response? What I am saying is that I think that I have heard comments in the past in many places which say pretty much the same as what you found in your shelter experience, Kevin: that the kits series is enormously important.

Right now I don't have time to try to carefully look them up and in a few days I'll be having the first of my next round of glaucoma surgeries so it is unlikely that I will have a chance unless that happens soon. If I do, I'll post what bits I have time to find, but personally, I think you are onto an essential point here, so hopefully others will have time to search, and enough people will grasp it, especially people who run shelters or adopt because they may be helped by using further safety measures like keeping up on local levels of CDV and leaving shoes outside during the bad times or where ferrets can not play with them, and by using titers if they have any question of coverage.

That many people wrote to you privately with past canine distemper experiences does not surprise me; there have been many years in the past when people contacted me directly to find information on CDV due to infections in their homes or shelters but were afraid of how a few unpleasant people might treat them if they were publicly as honest as you have been. That you have been courageous enough to work on teaching the ferret community so that more ferrets can be saved is a huge kindness on your part.
