This patient is not simply compromised because of his advanced age but he has a host of serious and challenging health issues. In other words, any surgery would not be straight forward, even for an experienced veterinary surgeon.

My Suki had her anal glands removed at 4 years old. There was only pain meds used for 3 days, nothing else was needed and full healing and recovery took 21 days. Impacted glands are very painful for a ferret. The vet had never done this before on a ferret and he was reluctant until the frequency of treating them by expression was down to every 6 weeks.

I must say that my vet is an excellent surgeon and does the neatest and quickest work I have ever seen, (only 2 minutes anesthesia to remove a spindle cell tumor from a front paw).
