Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Seriously Swollen Abdomen in 3-month-old Kit
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

He was shocked? Like with electricity? If it was in fact an electrical shock, this can lead to heart failure which could cause his abdomen to fill up with fluid. His lungs can also fill with fluid causing him to have trouble breathing. I would get him to a ferret knowledgable vet ASAP! He most likely needs radiographs of chest and abdomen. He could also be in liver failure or heart failure due to a congenital or inherited heart problem. I don't think that constant water consumption could be due to being on a dry diet as most ferrets are maintained on a commercial dry food. So please get to a vet soon! Good luck and keep us posted.
