To: FHL <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Henry's actually my sixth fuzzy. I suppose that my lack of
knowledge on what a kit should look like is because I'm totally
blind. I'd thoroughly researched ferrets for 3 years, before
adopting my first in the summer of 2008.

>Zen, my first ferret died on 8-21-09 of insulinoma and lymphoma.
He'd been given to a local pet store, where my parents and I were
told that he was only a year old. It turned out that he was
really around four and was sick from the day he came home,
although I wasn't made aware of this fact until Zen had already
died a year later. He came home from the store on 8-3-08.

Lillie and Chibi came home from my local PETCO on 10-17-08 and
4-2-09 respectively.

Frankie was found by a good samaritan on the side of the road and
taken to the vet where he was miraculously nursed back to health.
The vet called us and asked if we wanted him, so Frankie came
home on 7-31-09.

On 6-12-11 I handed Chibi over to Chris and Dave Mathis who run
the Oregon Ferret Shelter out of their home. Chibi will remain
their personal pet until the day she dies, because Chris promised
me, and also due to the fact that Chibi's a liability. She
bites, and breaks skin.

Chibi's constant biting had been aggravating my epilepsy for at
least a year, if not more. My parents and I had tried everything
to fix her, and nothing worked. They finally agreed with me that
having Chibi in the house was detrimental to my health, as well
as to hers. I had seized while holding Chibi on at least two
occasions. If she hadn't been promptly rescued by my dad I
could've easily killed her.

Lillie, Chibi, and Frankie weren't getting their needed amount of
daily out of cage time because I wasn't supposed to handle them
by myself. My dad was the one to put them in their playpen, and
he'd be tired a lot from work. Sometimes they'd be in their
house for 24 hours at a stretch. My mom was terrified of Chibi
as I was, and didn't want to risk getting bit. Chibi's
temperament drastically changed after Zen died. They were BFFS.

A few weeks before Chibi went to her new home, I decided to put
the fuzzies in the playpen myself, because my dad was on the
phone. Chibi was the first ferret to come out of the cage, and
soon bit me. I managed to pry her off myself and put her in the
playpen, before collapsing to the floor with a seizure. If I'd
still been holding onto Chibi, I very well could have fallen on
her, possibly leading to her death, or at least a serious injury.

My service dog, Ava stayed with me until my dad came up from his
office in the basement. After I stopped seizing my dad scolded
me for getting the ferrets out myself.

Chris Mathis made a trade with me. I could choose any ferret in
the shelter who got along with Lillie and Frankie, and she could
have Chibi. It took me 7 months before I finally took Chris up
on her generous offer of help.

Lillie and Frankie (and my dad as well) really got along with
Mischief, a 2.5-year-old Triple F female, so she was my trade. I
then adopted Henry, paying the full fee, because he and I had
formed a bond. Henry reminds me so much of Zen it's erie. I
just hope he lives longer than Zen did.

When I thought that Henry was sick, I was so worried. I'd
already lost Zen and Chibi (plus Puffs, my cat who had just died
of kidney failure) I couldn't lose Henry too. Thankfully Henry's
not sick. He weighs 1 pound, 9 ounces, 3 more ounces than
Mischief.
