Two things
1) Why do you say high does would cause diarrhea? That is what I was told a few years ago because high doses of Vitamin A caused toxicity but I was recently informed by this group that ferrets don't get Vitamin A toxicity.
2) I never said there was evidence, it was an idea. If high doses of Vitamin A is used to treat distemper then its possible that it could help prevent it from occurring.  It was only recently that veterinarians started to use Vitamin A as a treatment. Perhaps the reason there is no evidence is because this is a new treatment and it has yet to be studied and maybe no one ever thought of it before. Just because there is no evidence does not mean its not possible.

[Too much Ferretone causes diarreah, which is not the same as saying that diarreah is caused by Vitamin A toxicity. Two different things.
You are correct when you say that because there is no evidence does not mean it is not possible. It is up to the researchers to prove that it is a preventative by providing the evidence that it is. And as you suggest, they may very well have had the same idea as you and are already studying it. Would not hurt if you felt strongly enough, to contact the veterinarian who began using Vitamin A to treat canine distemper in ferrets and ask what he thought ; ) - Moderator (TD)]

I just had a wild thought. So wild can be good or just plain wild.
One of the treatments for Distemper is Vitamin A. Doesn't ferretone have a lot of Vitamin A in it. I wonder if give your ferret Ferretone every day would help ward off distemper or reduce its severity?  I know the amount give in distemper treatment is very high I just wondered if daily doses of ferretone would help or not.Â
In humans they say take a lot of Vitamin C to ward off disease I wonder if daily Ferretone would help ward off distemper. Ward off not prevent infection.
Like I said it was a wild thought.

[High doses of Ferretone would cause severe diarreah. There is no evidence to suggest that high doses of Vitamin A are preventative for acquiring distemper. - Moderator (TD)]
