Is there a difference between the Distemper vaccination and the booster?  Are they the same shot?

I have asked my vet on the availability and cost of doing a titer. On one hand I want to save money but I don't want to do that at the expense of hurting my ferret.  I understand that a distemper reaction can be pretty bad.  We had 4 reactions two years ago to the rabies vaccination 3 were pretty bad, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy.  They all received shots to counter act the reaction and the received pre meds to help reduce the chance of reactions.

So if our ver can do a titer we will probably do it. I don't want to put our fuzzies through a reaction if I can prevent it.

[The booster is the vaccination. They are one and the same.

The vast majority of reactions to distemper vaccinations are mild. A reaction can be prevented in many ferrets who have reacted in the past by pretreating with Benadryl. You may want to discuss this option with your vet. --Moderator (CMM)]
