Subject: [ferrethealth] HELP! Two ferrets died in sleep
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

One of our adopters just called. Two of the three she adopted passes suddenly in their sleep. The first, 3-4yr old apparently healthy male, played, went to hammock to sleep and was found dead. The second, older adrenal female with implant which wasn't working & monthly lupron, played, went to sleep in the evening and was found dead the next morning. This was a bit over 24 hours later. She feeds Totally Ferret Senior and was most of the way through the current bag. She said they showed no signs of respiratory problems and poop was normal. She cleans w/ baby wipes and occasionally w/ Clorox disinfectant wipes. The room is kept clean, air-conditioned (75 deg)and has no plants. All seem to be eating & drinking normally.
Of course it's a holiday & no vets will be open till Tuesday. She already buried the first one and put the second in the freezer so is a necropsy even possible? Of course, w the adrenal, it might not tell much as there is probably a lot going on insider her.
Needless to say she is very distraught! I've told her to confine both in their cages and thoroughly clean the room. I forgot to ask her about laundry soap, but....
He was given a Galaxy D distemper vaccination three weeks ago, she was not.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Katie Carr
