Subject: [ferrethealth] Diet for Ferret w/Insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello Ferret Health community,

My 5 1/2 yr. old guy, Watermelon, now has Insulinoma. I have had him for years. I came about owning him while pet-sitting; you see, his owners never came back. I am a 5-year experienced Ferret owner.

I post today concerning his diet. Before he was diagnosed with Insulinoma, his interest in kibble was decreasing progressively, and he has now stopped eating it, losing considerable weight. He may have dental problems, I think that are contributing to the issue. So I have started grinding his kibble (Evo) in a coffee grinder, adding water, vitamins, ground chicken liver- it is of a medium thick soupy consistency, which he loves. I prepare it warm for him, offering it up multiple times a day. He has begun to quickly gain weight back. But not quite where I think he should be/where he once was.

I am wondering, perhaps, if anyone has advice or experience with a special ferret diet of this kind? If this 'not-eating kibble' is indeed related to the insulinoma? And last but not least, if this kibble-soup method is a healthy alternative for me to continue feeding him regularly? Is there some information or something more I should be getting from my vet that I may not be?

He is on Insulinoma meds, given by our vet, for just under a month now. His energy is better than it has been, consistent with his weight gain. This 'not-eating kibble' issue begun slowly, and progressed. Although, it begun before he was officially daignosed w/Insulinoma.

Best wishes for you and your Ferrets this Holiday weekend!

Thank-you for reading my post!
