Yes, exactly. It seems to be an acclimation situation, and
in areas that tend to be hot people have often acclimated
their ferrets to higher temps while in colder ones the reverse
has happened.

I found the note about some ferrets overheating specifically
because they had been placed in a cage in front of a very
sunny window interesting, too. Talk about a localized
hot spot...

One added thing that is very important for those who have
ferrets who have cardiomyopathy: those ferrets are especially
vulnerable to temperature changes, and the more advanced the
illness becomes the more vulnerable they are. I learned that
from a vet who had himself had a ferret with cardiomyopathy.
We even had a better thermostat put in then so that the temperature
would not vary by more than 2 degrees.
