Hi, everyone,
Jeff's response was excellent. One thing I would add is that some
ferrets just don't respond well to medical treatments for insulinoma.
For them the only alternative becomes surgery. Thanks to the
excellent vets that have treated my ferrets all six that have had
insulinoma surgery over the years have derived real benefits from it
where their quality of life improved dramatically. While surgery
usually is not curative I've been very lucky: for two of mine it was
a cure with no recurrence of symptoms and no need for medication. Ker
Avon lived for three and a half years after his surgery; Chin Soon has
gone two years, three months so far.
I am not advocating surgery. I'm not a vet and I have never even seen
your ferret. I am advocating discussing the possibility with your
vet.
All the best,
Caity, with Zephyr and Chin Soon
