Don't despair. I only recently got ac for my ferret & my kids did fine. They were aclimated to it however. They did have fans, bottles of frozen water, & a tub of water to play in. There may be a cooldown place or a shelter where you can leave them during the day. Or, for about $150 you should be able to buy a small generator that could power a small window ac.
