Subject: [ferrethealth] Deslorelin implant
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

At the end of April, I had a deslorelin implant put in my female, Minky, who had a thin coat and according to one vet, swollen vulva. Tenn. panel confirmed adrenal disease. The past month (I think), she has started losing more hair. Does this mean it is not working? Is there any way to know other than doing the TN panel again or an ultrasound?

So many people have said this is the best treatment for adrenal disease without the risk of surgery, so I am very disappointed and surprised. Others have said their ferrets' coats got thicker or stayed the same until the next season.

Thanks for any info.

[The vets who have seen my ferrets still believe surgery is the only cure for adrenal disease. I think you can assume that you are still dealing with adrenal disease if the symptoms are still present or increasing and a Tennessee Panel came back positive before. Deslorelin doesn't work in all ferrets though it can be very effective for many. --Moderator (CMM)]
