Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Deslorelin implant
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I am taking 3 newbies in for Ses. implants next week.  The gal said the dosage is different than the last 2 I had done for my 2 older kids.  I didn't have time to ask about why these current ones are different and thought I'd ask the Dr. directly.

What I am curious about is if anyone out there in Ferretland has any comment on dosage for these implants that I should know about?  The 3 new kids are a year or so old and they are getting them prophylactically.

Thank you in advance!

As the deslorelin implant is also used in healthy animals to avoid future development of adrenal I see no need to invest in an expensive and not always accurate blood test before using it on an animal showing symptoms of adrenal, specially if it is an older animal that you would not want to subject to surgical intervention anyway.

Certainly my 8 year old who was looking very sorry for himself a few months ago is thriving since he was implanted. If he had been tested it wouldn't have made any difference to his treatment just damaged my pocket!

If one of my two year olds showed the same symptoms I agree I would go for further investigation before treatment.
