Ferrets should be vaccinated for canine distemper and rabies. Kits
get a series of three distemper shots and then an annual booster for
the rest of their lives. The larger breeders (i.e.: Marshall Farms)
give the first distemper vaccination and the owner then has to take
the little ones to the vet for the other two.

While ferrets rarely contract rabies the vaccination is mandatory in
many places. If an unvaccinated ferret "bites" someone they will be
tested for rabies, which means they will be killed. At least where we
live if a vaccinated ferret is accused of biting they will be
quarantined for 10 days and then returned to the owner.

Hope this helps,
Caity and the dynamic duo
