I'm less concerned about the law or the risk of contracting rabies
than I am with what animal control people will do if there is a
reported biting incident. "Testing" for rabies involves killing the
ferret. That is the risk I find unacceptable. I highly recommend
researching what will happen in your local area if your ferret is
accused of biting.

Having said all of that, I do agree that the risk of a ferret actually
getting rabies is extremely tiny. The usual disclaimer applies: I am
not a vet.
