To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I give benedrly at .25cc of the red children's liquid benedryl dosage twice a day for itchiness or allergy problems, just watch closely for drowsiness and sleeping too much and adjust the dose back just a bit if you can - I draw up the .25 in a 1cc syringe then draw up the rest with ferretone and they gobble it right down only making a few smirks along the way. We call this our "Benny" Marmadook is hooked and will beg for it. Also, on Mojo and others who have chronic itchiness, I mix 1/2 bag of Aveeno oatmeal powder in about a gallon of luke-warm water and mix real good (use one of those hospital bedpans). I put this tub in the bottom of the shower and then insert the ferret - just talk to them and calm them and dip your hand in the oatmeal water to cover their back and neck good - as long as they will stand it - I try to get about 5 minutes..then rinse them off and dry in towel and it really does seem to help - I've done it once a week on some severe cases. Hope this helps.

[We have used Children's Benadryl for seasonal allergies in ferrets. However, the dosage was determined by the weight of the ferret. You probably want to consult with your vet to determine the proper dosage. --Moderator (CMM)]
