The ferrets were imported straight from Path Valley into Holland, the importer sold them to pet shops in Holland, until then we had never had ADV here, So when it was suspected we sent samples to America for testing, then we traced down the rest of the ferret from that group and tested them and the ferrets they were with, some of the ferrets that came in that same group also tested negative although some of the Dutch ferrets they were housed with tested positive, so they were spreading even though they seemed free of the virus., some didn't show any signs until they were 4 or 5 years old and if we had not known that they had been in contact with the ADV, we would have blamed other problems as the cause of death, we were lucky, we were able to follow the ferrets and contain the spreading, we have not seen any more ADV ferrets for the last 2 years, but as I said, we are a small community compared to the USA, we got lucky and the importer never imported the ferrets from Path Valley after the first time as no one here will have them.
