Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Brewers yeast 1/4 teaspoon on food
You should search the archives for BREWERS YEAST, but I believe that the chromium in it can cause problems for ferrets with insulinoma, as it could lower blood glucose further. Some believe it may help, some believe it may hurt, but if I had a ferret with insulinoma, I would not take the chance.
Also, if your vet is trying to get some "good bacteria" into the ferret's system with the yogurt, you can inquire about using a probiotic instead, which may be more effective, and which will keep the dairy out of his system. Some common ones for ferrets are Forti-Flora (feline), BeneBac, and acidophilus. Acidophilus costs about $5 at any drugstore and you just break off a small part of one tablet once a day or once every other day.
