There is a lot on Brewers Yeast in the FHL Archives:
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/

It is common for many foods to have a little of it in them as a source of some minerals and vitamins and if you are making food at home that may be exactly why your vet is recommending it. Homemade foods often need a calcium source, too.

Brewers Yeast is given when blood sugar is too high and extra brewers yeast is avoided when it is too low.

If the blood glucose is too high then unless this is transient after insulinoma surgery it may need to be addressed more seriously. In the separate archives (second address in my sig lines) I recommend reading posts containing the word
diabetes
from a vet address containing
AFERRETVET
and leaving the subject box in the archives empty.

BTW, there used to be some people thinking that it could reduce attractiveness to fleas, but if you use the archives you will see that it actually could have the opposite effect.
