GREAT points!

There also at times can be problem when a bacterial species, or subspecies , or variant not normally in a given mammal species takes hold, as some of them can. The result is population surges alternating with population crashes (both of which get to cause diarrhea), and at times the version that is not normally found in that particular mammal species can outcompete the normal bacterial types. I first learned that the hard way in myself about 33 or 34 years ago when because of my work and studies I had a chimp variant of E. coli decide to take hold in my intestines. I was sick for 3 months and even had to drop a class with special medical permission and change some others to pass/fail. The university infirmary could not figure out what was wrong so sent me to a university parasitologist. It turns out that this problem can happen in any type of mammal, though luckily usually the symbiotic bacterial variants that are found in other species can not even take hold in species that are not normally their hosts. Still, it pays to realize that some things which might seem safe may not always be safe, so as with all drugs probiotics should be okayed by the treating veterinarian first.
