Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Canine distemper transmission
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Jeff
No ferrets are not carriers of distemper. Ferrets get exposed to
distemper from either ferrets or dogs or wildlife with distemper.
Ferrets can sometimes shed the virus for a few days before they
get sick, but they are not carriers!
The vaccine is used to prevent distemper, and proper vaccination works.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
