Hi Tressie, Andrea, and others:
My vet didn't say that she suspected proliferative colitis, but since the diarrhea came back quickly after using amoxicillin, she wanted to try something that she has used before that she felt was more specifically for the bacteria of the digestive system. She first suggested flagyll, but I asked her for something else, because trying to give Dozer flagyll is more harmful than helpful, to the point of stressing him out severely and causing him to poop himself. So she chose to try the Chloramphenicol. She said to try it for 10 days, rather than to first run a bacteria culture on his poop, wait for results, and then decide on what to try. She did also warn me of the possible risks if it's not handled properly and carefully.
